A book about Frisian fisherman's wives from the past
''Friese vissersvrouwen hadden de broek aan''(Frisian fishermen's wives wore the britches). Author: G.I.W. Dragt 2013. Richly illustrated, 42 pp.
Friese vissersvrouwen hadden de broek aan is a publication following a lecture by the Dutch Association for Costume, Lace, Fashion and Regional Wear. On January 26, 2013, the lecture on the clothing of Frisian fisherwomen took place.
The Frisian fishermen's wives used to wear men's trousers when they went looking for worms on the mudflats. For a better understanding of the necessity of this work clothing, this booklet briefly discusses the specific fishery in which the clothing forms a part.
