A book about the rescue station of Moddergat(1878-1942). Author: G.I.W. Dragt 2011, 132 pp.
''Aan de vissers heeft het niet gelegen...'' (It is not the fishermen's fault...) The rescue station of Moddergat (1878-1942).
Author: G.I.W. Dragt 2011. Richly illustrated, 132 pages.
This issue focuses on the Moddergat rescue station. From the rescue station, attempts were made for 64 years to rescue people who had gotten into trouble with their ship with a lifeboat, rowing or sailing. The rescue station employees were there for the drowning person, rain or shine, no matter how high and menacing the waves came at their rowboat.
The station was built in 1878 and was in service until 1942. The building still stands, albeit in poor condition. Moddergat's former lifeboat has also bravely withstood the test of time.
